Flare Scratch

The flare scratch is an open fader scratch invented and made famous by DJ Flare in the early 1990s. It is the opposite to the ‘transformer scratch’ where the fader starts in the closed position whereas with the flare, the fader typically starts in the open position before the record hand moves.

As a result of this movement between the fader and the record motion, 2 sounds can be made with a single ‘click’ of the fader. Therefore more notes can be made with less fader movement when compared to the transformer scratch. It can sound like a very fast scratch.
